I know, I know: one of the main goals here on the Quest is to get rid of things, rather than accumulate more stuff. But let's be honest: isn't it kind of fun to get new stuff sometimes, especially if that stuff holds the promise of helping you get organized? And let's face it: basements and garages are just not all that fun to organize, so if you can get a little motivation mileage out of $7.00 ladder rack, while not go for it?
Since it's been ten years since I've had either basement or garage, I haven't tried out any of the products below. I just thought they looked kind of cool and might serve to give you some ideas as you plan your garage or basement makeover:
#1: Ladder Hook
Price: $6.99
Where: Container Store
Remember: if you don't have a lot of space, you have to think vertical. While ladders need to be accessible, there's no reason why they have to take up floor space.
#2: 22-Drawer Storage Cabinet
Price: $16.96
Where: The Home Depot
Nails, screws shims, washers, bolts, cup hooks, drywall anchors: where do you put all this stuff? Well, here's one possible answer. 22 drawers ensure a place for everything and everything in its place.
#3: Suncast Hose Reel with Guide
Price: $29.99
Where: Sears
When I had a house with a garage and garden, I would pile my hoses in the wheelbarrow for storage. Low tech, but it worked well enough. This is a cool alternative; I especially like the wheels for easy carting.
#4: Craftsman Heavy-Duty Steel Storage Board
Price: $179.99
Where: Sears
Or
PegBoard HB
Price: $9.00
Where: DiamondLife
Couldn't resist the picture, right, but can't help but wonder about the price. I was able to find tempered hardboard panels, below, at diamondlifegear.com starting at just $9 for a 24" x 48" panel.
