I once had a roommate whose mother was an organization genius, and she took my friend to task for not utilizing the room in her shoes when packing for college. "You pack socks in shoes," her mother said. "Everybody knows that."
In fact, I didn't know that then, but I've remembered it ever since. So last summer when the 12-compartment sock drawer I designed for Alpay started to get a little over-loaded, I took my friend's mother's advice and was amazed I could fit six pairs of winter socks into a pair of snow boots, thus freeing up a good quarter or more of the space in the sock drawer.
