This weekend I was in desperate need of a "desk day," as the cache of papers on, around, and yes, under my desk were of such quantity and proportion that I was sure something was lurking there that I'd Be Plenty Sorry About if I didn't find and deal with it soon. And what do you know? I was right! There among a cascading pile of receipts, fliers, piteous solicitations, alumni magazines, and fountain pen catalogs was a reminder to file my '08 flex spending expenses before the end of the month. After making good and sure I used up my flex spending money before the end of last year, I hadn't followed through with submitting the actual paperwork. Oops!
No harm no foul: I gathered up my receipts, went to the web site, found the applicable forms, printed them out, filled them out, and faxed them in less time than it took to write this post. With all the tax-time excitement, it's easy to overlook end-of-April financial to-do's, but claiming your flex spending expenses is one deadline you don't want to miss.
